Key information

Who we support

A smaller, more individualized place to learn

AKC provides support for children who may benefit from a smaller, more individualized learning environment, including children with autism and other developmental or learning differences.

We recognize that children develop at different rates—and different does not mean less.

Our approach

Every child is different.

That means every child deserves an approach that recognizes their individual strengths, needs and learning style.

Our learning environment combines:

Learning

  • Child-led and play-based learning
  • Individualized academic support
  • Small-group and one-on-one instruction

Development

  • Communication development
  • Fine- and gross-motor activities
  • Life-skills development

Wellbeing

  • Sensory activities and movement
  • Social and emotional support
  • Structured routines and visual supports

We believe that connection comes before correction and that children learn best when they feel safe and supported.

Our goal is not simply to help children complete schoolwork.

We celebrate progress, whether it is a first word, a new skill, completing an activity independently, making a friend, learning to write a name, or simply feeling comfortable enough to participate.

We want to help children become more:

  • Confident
  • Independent
  • Communicative
  • Capable
  • Connected

Our vision

We envision a community where children with developmental differences are understood, supported and given meaningful opportunities to learn and grow.

At AKC, we are building more than a classroom. We are building a community of understanding.
